Stable analogues of the dual agonist dogfish glucagon show better therapeutic potential than exendin-4 in diet induced obese diabetic mice

O'Harte Finbarr P M , Ng Ming T , Conlon J Michael , Flatt Peter R

Recent acute in vivo studies have shown that structural modifications of dogfish glucagon improves peptide stability and these analogues can act as dual agonists at both glucagon and GLP-1 receptors. Here, we compared the effects of chronic (51 days) twice daily administration of [D-Ala2]dogfish glucagon (Pep-N) and [D-Ala2]dogfish glucagon-exendin-4(31–39) construct (Pep-C), exendin-4(1–39) or saline treat...

Diagnostic difficulty in differentiating between meningioma and pituitary adenoma

Hatfield E , Lewis D , Powell M , Ng K , Kong C , Johnston C

We report two patients (AB 41 years, LS 55 years) presenting with symptoms of hyperprolactinaemia. Prolactin levels were moderately elevated: 1539 (AB), 1186 (LS) (NR 59-619 mU/L). The remainder of the pituitary profile was normal. Neither patient had visual field defects. MRIs (without contrast) reported pituitary macroadenoma with suprasellar extension but no optic chiasm compression. The initial diagnosis was of probable non-functioning adenoma causing stalk compression. Bo...

Chan N , Chan W , Ma R , Ng M , Lee Z , Lai C , Tong P , So W , Chan J

Objectives: To investigate whether there is a sex difference in serum leptin concentration in Chinese Type 2 diabetic patients with and without nephropathy. Methods: Early morning fasting serum leptin concentrations were measured in 34 Type 2 diabetic patients (mean age 62.1) with nephropathy (creatinine 120-450micromol/l and spot urinary albumin creatinine ratio (ACR) > 25 mg/mmol), 12 newly diagnosed diabetic subjects (mean age 62.5) with normoalbumi...

Introduction: The ESPE e-Learning web portal is a free, globally accessible online tool to enhance learning in Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes. Since August 2022, the e-learning content includes 30 accredited hours of ESPE/ISPAD e-learning Continuing Medical Education (CME) courses with ten core modules each in Paediatric Endocrinology, Paediatric Endocrinology in Resource Limited Setting (RLS) and Paediatric Diabetes. The CME modules were created by wor...
